Hootie and the Blowfish Raise Over $10,000 in School Supplies!

08/20/2006

Academy Award winning artists Hootie and the Blowfish raised over $10,000 in school supplies for at-risk students in Wake County during their recent concert at Raleigh's Alltel Pavilion.

Concert goers were asked to help 'stuff the bus' with school supplies for area at-risk youth by bringing a few school supply items to the concert. Hootie and the Blowfish also generously offered free concert tickets to donors bringing supplies. CIS Wake staff and volunteers were almost overwhelmed by the success of the event, and by the end of the night every seat and overhead bin on the bus was full of backpacks, pencils, crayons, notebooks, and assorted school supplies.

On behalf of the Board, staff, and (most of all) the students of CIS Wake, we want to thank Hootie and the Blowfish for their generosity and kindness to at-risk youth across Wake County. As a result of this school supply drive, over 500 students have the school supplies they need to get off to a successful start in school.

CIS Wake would also like to thank Susan Graham from Fischo Management, the staff of Alltel Pavilion and Live Nation, Mix 101.5, and News 14 Carolina for making the event such a success. Thanks also to Jason Moore Photography for the picture of Hootie and the Blowfish and CIS Wake volunteers.
